Behind the Rabbitry

Welcome to Carrot Warrior's Rabbitry! We are a small rabbitry currently based out of London, ON, Canada. My passion for holland lops stemmed from my very first tort holland lop, Pancake, that I got for Christmas when I was in highshcool. The pet store informed us that she was a male and my sister at the time also had a male rabbit. We had always loved to experiment with social experiences for animals and allowed the rabbits at a relatively young age to interact with one another. Thinking nothing of them mounting one another, we just thought it was a hierarchy behaviour, we had a litter of six bunnies a month later. Needless to say, we no longer allowed them out to "play" together. The experience was unforgettable: between thinking Pancake pooped out her organs, thoroughly enjoying the phenotypes (coat colours) that came from the pairing and seeing the looks on new pet owners' faces when the bunnies found their new furrever homes.

I then later went away to University and took Pancake along with me until she passed away naturally at the age of 8. I then graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Animal Biology and then a MSc in Animal Biosciences. I learned about animal genetics, nutrition, physiology, animal welfare and proper animal housing practices. I have had a couple of zookeeper positions and still currently work in the animal care field, taking care of a variety of species. As I have continued to grow as a person, I have always wanted to revisit breeding lops on a more professional level, to attend rabbit shows and preserve the breed.

Here at Carrot Warrior's Rabbitry, we raise purebred holland lops with a goal to follow the high standards of perfection (SOP) by the American Rabbits Breeders Association (ARBA). The current colours that you may find at our rabbitry include blue, black, tri colour, harlequin, tort and other colour variations that are pulled from those pairings. We breed for temperament, health and soundness. Our rabbits have great dispositions that come from many years of careful selection and breeding. All of our rabbits are loved and are exposed to different forms of daily enrichment (exposure to different smells, noises, items, etc.) and interact with various species in a controlled setting.
